What is a fuel cap? What does it do? And the available types and material components in the market?
A Fuel Cap also called a gas cap, and a fuel filler neck and cap seal or locks the fuel tank and stops fuel evaporation and impurities. It also protects ignition safety, prevention from explosions and lightning, pump, and vent. They come with a valve, flange O-ring, and nuts.
The raw materials generally used in gas caps production are plastic, aluminum, and stainless steel. Many times materials such as flour silicone seal and polyurethane are also used in the filler cap’s manufacturing.

Vented Fuel Caps

Vented fuel caps control pressure in the fuel system, especially for vehicles manufactured after 1985. Such fuel caps have a special valve proficient in releasing that pressure if it is too high.
The non-vented fuel caps only manage the pressure, but they do not release it.

If the fuel caps look worn or cracked, it is always recommended to buy a new one and even consider locking varieties.
Do check your vehicle regularly; along with everything else, do consider a replacement gas cap. You may not even notice anything untoward, but there could still be tiny cracks or a busted seal that can create engine light to ignite.
