Check the condition of the filler neck and cap

 

  •  Locate the fuel filler neck. Visually inspect the fuel filler neck for external damage.
  • Determine if the fuel filler neck is leaking vapor. If vapours escape from the fuel filler neck, the engine management system registers this.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat, hard surface. Make sure the transmission is in park position (for automatic transmission) or 1st gear (for manual transmission).
  • Put wedges around the tires. In this case, the wheel chocks will be around the front tires as the rear of the vehicle will be raised.
  • Install a nine-volt battery saver in the cigarette lighter. This will keep your computer active and your settings updated in the vehicle.
  • Open the vehicle hood to disconnect the battery. Remove the ground lead from the negative pole of the battery and turn off the fuel pump or sender unit.
  • Raise the vehicle. Using a floor jack, lift it under the vehicle at the specified lifting points until the wheels are completely off the ground.
  • Secure the tripods. The stands must go under the positions of the stands; Lower the vehicle onto the jack stands.
  • Open the fuel door to access the fuel filler neck. Remove any mounting screws or bolts attached to the cutout.
  • Remove the fuel tank cap lead from the fuel neck and set it aside.
  • Locate the fuel tank. Check under the vehicle and locate the fuel tank cap.
  • Disconnect the harness from the connector. Reach the top of the fuel tank and look for a harness attached to the tank.
  • Check the rubber hose for cracks. The rubber hose must be replaced If there are cracks.
  • Raise the fuel tank. Do this all the way to align the fuel filler neck with the cutout and align the fuel filler neck mounting holes.
  • Align the fuel filler neck with the cutout in the fuel door area. Install mounting screws or bolts in the neck and secure them securely.
